What is a Continuing project?
A project is considered CONTINUING if:
- It is a multi-year project;
- It is in its second or subsequent year;
- It develops or extends a previously-funded project; the objectives are essentially the same as originally approved, though some aspect (e.g., location, site, species, timing) may be altered .
CONTINUING projects need to provide information on progress-to-date for previous years’ work, as well as how the current year’s work will contribute to the overall project objectives.
Multi-year projects are required to produce an annual Grant Report (previously called the Annual Report) as well as one Final Project Report that summarizes the entire project after it is completed.
What if a project is longer than 5 years?
If a multi-year project is more than 5 years’ duration, HCTF requires that it be sectioned into 5-year cycles:
- Long-term projects must be identified and approved by HCTF at the beginning of the project;
- In Year 5 you will need to produce a Final Project report (in addition to the annual Grant Report for the 5th year) that summarizes all years of the project’s 5-year cycle;
- In Year 6, you will still submit your proposal on the CONTINUING project proposal form with the project name and number, but:
- Identify it (in the Multi-year Budget Comments field) as Year 1 of 5 for the new 5-year cycle;
- In Section 1 and 2 of the Project Details, provide a brief overview of progress over the 5-year cycle (i.e. a preview of what will come in the 5-Year Final Report);
- The 5-year Final Project Report must be received by HCTF by September 30th following completion of Year 5.
